Angels rookie pitcher killed in hit-and-run crash

I just read on yahoo.com and on the Angels’ mlb.com site that Angels’ rookie pitcher Nick Adenhart and two other people were killed early this morning when a minivan ran a red light and broadsided their silver Mitsubishi. The Mitsubishi then struck a light pole. Another passenger in the car was seriously injured. The driver of the minivan reportedly fled the scene on foot but was later caught and arrested.

Adenhart was 22 years old.

What a terrible, terrible tragedy. Reading about it actually brought tears to my eyes. A young life was wasted because of someone else’s carelessness. And the fact that the minivan driver who caused the accident fled the scene just infuriates me. Not only is that person a careless, wreckless murderer, but he’s also a coward.

My deepest sympathies go out to Nick Adenhart’s family, friends, and loved ones, as well as to the Los Angeles Angels organization and fans.
